Apple is set to inaugurate its inaugural retail outlet in Malaysia this June, marking a significant expansion of its footprint in Southeast Asia beyond China.
Located at The Exchange TRX mall in Kuala Lumpur, this marks the tech giant’s first venture into the Malaysian retail market.
The official announcement of the opening was made on Apple’s website on May 29, with the store scheduled to commence operations on June 22 at 10 a.m. local time.
Apple’s expansion into Malaysia marks a strategic move to bolster its presence in Southeast Asia, joining existing stores in India, Thailand, and Singapore.
As Malaysia becomes a pivotal hub for production and sales, Apple’s manufacturing footprint extends beyond China, with Macs produced locally for the past few years.
The country also plays a role in iPhone production in India and AirPods manufacturing in Vietnam.
The upcoming store’s development began in early 2023, with Bloomberg News reporting on its progress.
It was initially slated to open in February but faced setbacks, leading to delays.
In April, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook embarked on a tour of Southeast Asia, including stops in Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam, aimed at fostering growth in the region.
