THE Young Atlas Lions of Morocco on Wednesday night defeated Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets 1-0 to qualify for the quarter-finals stage in the ongoing 2023 Africa U17 Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Algeria.
Morocco who beat South Africa 2-0 in their first match sealed the ticket with a victory over coach Nduka Ugbade’s boys benefitting from an own goal by Tochukwu Ogboji in the second minute of the match.
Efforts to level the tally proved abortive as Eaglets were not smart enough on their accuracy to convert their chances.
With the victory, Morocco now top the group B with six points while Eaglets will be hoping for a victory over South Africa in their last group match so as to qualify to the next round.
The five-time world champions, Nigeria on Sunday began their 2023 AFCON campaign with a 1-0 victory over the Young Chipolo- polo of Zambia courtesy of Favour Daniel’s 76th minute’s goal but failed to book an early spot against Young Atlas Lions of Morocco.
The team next match is schedule for Sunday South Africa who defeated their counterparts from Zambia with 3-2 victory.
