Bandits have kidnapped two nurses and an unspecified number of patients after attacking a Primary Healthcare Centre in Kaduna State.
The incident occurred on the morning of Monday, September 9, 2024, in Kuyallo, Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
According to local reports, the bandits initially targeted the nearby Government Day Secondary School, arriving around 9:00 am.
Local vigilante Musa Alhassan said the gunmen intended to abduct students but shifted their focus to the healthcare centre after finding the school empty.
“The bandits came to the school around 9:00 am asking for students. When they realized the school was empty, they moved to the healthcare centre and started kidnapping people,” Alhassan explained.
The attackers took two female nurses and several patients hostage, leaving the community in fear and uncertainty. The exact number of patients abducted remains unclear.
An eyewitness described the scene, saying, “The bandits stormed the healthcare centre with guns and machetes, dragging people out of the building. We were helpless to stop them.”
Kaduna State has been struggling with a rise in attacks and abductions by gunmen. Just last Thursday, 15 people, including nursing mothers and children, were kidnapped in Mani village, Chikun LGA.
In previous incidents, over 200 students were abducted on March 7 after bandits attacked Government Secondary School Kuriga in Chikun LGA, and on March 12, around 61 people were kidnapped in Buda community, Kajuru LGA.
In February, six people were killed during a bandit raid on Kwasam community in Kauru LGA.
