Floods in Indonesia’s North Maluku province on Sunday left 13 dead and two injured, according to authorities.
The heavy rains, which began on Saturday, caused significant damage in Ternate city, destroying 10 houses.
The National Disaster Management Agency, BNPB, has urged residents to stay alert, as further heavy rainfall is expected in the coming days.
“We urge people to remain vigilant and follow directions from authorities on potential subsequent floods,” Spokesperson Abdul Muhari stated.
BNPB confirmed it has sent teams to aid in evacuations, while the search and rescue agency Basarnas reported ongoing efforts to rescue victims trapped by landslides and debris carried by the floodwaters.
