The Finnish government announced on Thursday that it would extend the closure of crossing stations along its border with Russia until further notice.

Additionally, several ports have been added to the list of locations where travel will be prohibited.

Finland initiated the closure of its land borders with Russia late last year in response to an influx of arrivals from countries such as Syria and Somalia.

It has accused Moscow of using migration as a weapon against the Nordic nation, a claim denied by the Kremlin.

Interior Minister Mari Rantanen stated in a release, “Finnish authorities view this as a long-term situation.

We have not observed any significant changes this spring that would warrant a different conclusion.”

In February, the government had announced that the border closure was expected to remain in effect until April 14.
