Fire broke out at an oil refinery in the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas on Thursday, resulting in at least one fatality and three injuries.
State media reported that a furnace undergoing repairs ignited at around 11 a.m. local time, causing a fire at the refinery in Bandar Abbas.
Tragically, a 38-year-old man lost his life, and three others sustained injuries, requiring hospitalization.
According to reports, one of the injured is in critical condition. This incident follows a previous fire in July at the same refinery, which injured eight firefighters when two oil tanks in a tank farm caught fire.
Frequent incidents of fires have been reported in the port area, situated at the entrance of the critical Strait of Hormuz, as well as at various oil facilities across Iran.
The port holds significant importance for Iran’s import and export activities, serving as one of the country’s vital hubs for trade.
Authorities attributed such incidents to the enduring impact of decades-long sanctions on Iranian industries, as well as the scorching summer weather experienced in previous years.
