Easter message: Bishop Kukar questions President Buhari’s performance

The Catholic Archbishop of Sokoto diocese, Bishop Hassan Matthew Kukah has questioned the performances of President Muhammadu Buhari in the last eight years.

In his Easter message, Kukah asked the President whether he is fullfilled, having had the opportunity to rule the country for eight years.

Kukah who waxed philosophical, stated that after the handover, he knows the president would retire to either Kaduna or Daura, where he will stay for the rest of his life.

However, he ask him whether he has fullfilled his mission as president, in view of the myriad of problems like banditry, corruption, ethnicity, religious bigotry, kidnapping, which his administration has been unable to tackle despite the promises he made in the eight years he held sway as president.

He insisted that, over the years, his criticism of Buhari’s administration was born out of patriotism, not malice, and that as he is set to begin life after retirement, he prays to God to guide him (Buhari).

“As you (President Buhari) prepare to return to Daura or Kaduna, I do not know if you feel fulfilled or that you met the tall dreams and goals you set for yourself such as: ending banditry, defeating corruption, bringing back our girls, belonging to everybody and belonging to nobody, selling off our presidential fleet and traveling with us.

“You may have followed my engagement with you through these messages over the years. You publicly referred to me during one of our visits as your number one public critic with a huge smile.

“I commend you for the fact that you have known that none of this was done out of malice but that we want the best for our country. May God guide you in retirement while we all embark on the challenge of reclaiming the country we knew before you came,” Kukah stated.
