Nigeria’s Oyo state APC guber candidate trains 500 youths on solar power installations
As parts of his plan to engage the youths in his senatorial district, All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Teslim Folarin on Thursday flagged off one month training of 500 youths on solar power installations and maintenance.
Speaking at the flag off, Folarin said that the training was aimed at providing the needed skills for the participants to become self-employed and employers of labour.
The empowerment training was being organised by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDM) and the training is running simultaneously in three centres, namely Havana Royal Hall, Ibadan; Atiba University, Oyo and Hecky Hall, Under-G area, Ogbomoso.
The facilitator described solar energy as the only alternative toward boosting regular power supply.
He urged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the training to acquire skills that would better their lives and put food on their tables.
Some of the participants appreciated Folarin for the opportunity, promising to utilise the knowledge acquired to become self-reliant and employers of labour.
Similarly, Folarin in his bid to reduce illiteracy and restiveness, had provided scholarship opportunities for young school leavers across the 33 local government areas.
