The incident occurred at around 5:00 p.m. (1700 GMT) at a bridge crossing the Bagoe River, near the western town of Kenieba.
It was gathered that the incident was likely due to the driver’s failure to control the vehicle and that 10 others were injured in the crash, some seriously, causing fears that the death toll could rise.
The country’s Ministry of Transport confirming the accident said; “A bus that was leaving Kenieba commune for Burkina Faso tipped off a bridge. The likely cause is the driver losing control of the vehicle,”
The statement added that Malians and citizens elsewhere in the West African subregion were among the victims.
Car accidents are a common occurrence in Mali, often attributed to the poor state of roads, highways, and vehicles in the country.
In a recent incident earlier this month, a tragic collision between a bus en route to the capital city of Bamako and a truck in central Mali resulted in the loss of 15 lives and left 46 others injured.
