No fewer than 11 people have landed in hospital and 130 others have been rescued after a massive fire engulfed a residential building in the upscale neighborhood of South Kensington, London, UK.
The incident, which has caused tension among members of the community, emerged at a terraced house converted into apartments on Emperor’s Gate in the early hours of Friday, March 1, 2024.
The London Fire Brigade, speaking on the incident, said fifteen fire engines and approximately 100 firefighters responded to the fire at a terraced house converted into apartments on Emperor’s Gate, situated in the southwest of the British capital, near the Natural History Museum.
Adding that half of the ground floor of the five-storey building was alight when the firefighters arrived.
“The fire has spread from the ground floor to the top floor and roof. Crews are working hard to… stop it spreading to adjacent buildings,” said Station Commander Steve Collins, who was at the scene.
Five people were rescued using ladders, with around 130 residents evacuated from the property and neighbouring buildings.
“Around 11 people have been treated for smoke inhalation and taken to hospital,” the fire service added.
