An accident involving a bus in Australia Hunter Wine region north of Sydney has led to the death of 10 people, police confirmed on Monday.
A statement by the police said that a crime scene had been established, and that the driver of the bus—a 58-year-old man— was taken to hospital under police guard for mandatory testing and assessment.”
The Hunter region has many vineyards and native bushlands, and so it attracts wine tourists and group outings.
About midnight last Sunday, police said they received a call from the junction nearby the small town of Greta “after reports a coach had rolled.”
“The police said: “A crime scene has been established, which will be examined by specialist forensic police and the Crash Investigation Unit.”
“Initial inquiries indicate 10 people have died. 11 people were transported to hospital via helicopter and road, and 18 passengers are injured, indicating that those figures could change.”
The bus according to local media report was coming from a wedding reception, at a close by wine estate.
