William Ruto has been declared the winner of the Kenya Presidential election after polling over 7 million votes.
Ruto, who is the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) presidential candidate in the 2022 presidential election defeated the former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga who polled over 6 million votes representing 48 per cent.
Ruto succeeds outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta who did not support his candidacy. Kenyatta is in the twilight of his presidency and will leave office later in August.
The chair of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) blamed the delay in announcing the result of the country’s presidential election on candidates’ agents for slowing down the national tally of votes.
Speaking, he said this is historic and he’s very happy to have emerged as the Kenya President.
